The Best Acrylic Paint

Acrylic paint is a relatively new medium on the timeline of art history and it is quickly challenging oil paint for many artists' favorite painting type. It dries quickly and can be layered easily, allowing artists to fix mistakes and make changes on the fly. Check out some of our favorites.

Golden Acrylics

Golden Acrylics are the best around. With that said, they tend to cost a little more but you get every bit of what you pay for. Golden paints have earned their reputation for high quality and they've done while remaining accessible. Try out some of their many additives and mediums while you're at it to get even more out of your paint.

Grumbacher Academy

You'll find the Grumbacher brand mentioned on my list of recommended oil paints as well. Their acrylic line is called Academy and they're very affordable for the quality. I've used these for a long time and never had any issues. The pigments are outstanding and they mix well together, which should allow you to get the results you're looking for.

Liquitex Heavy Body

The Liquitex Heavy Body Set is one of several sets offered by Liquitex. What I like about this one is that it includes enough paint to get you started and the pigments are a little different than most sets. You’ll get a bright Hansa yellow that mixes well with the Naphthol crimson and a standard Ultramarine blue. Liquitex is also a great, budget-friendly paint that allows you to experiment and play without worrying about wasting materials.
